The role

You will be a hands-on senior member of a newly forming engineering team, taking product work from technical design through React frontend, Ruby on Rails backend, testing, and production. You will help establish practical engineering standards while collaborating closely with the team on product priorities and delivery. As part of a small startup team, priorities may shift and you may occasionally take on work beyond your core responsibilities to help the team deliver.

What you will do

• Break complex product work into clear milestones, identify dependencies and risks early, and drive it through release.
• Design, implement, test, and operate features across the product area, including APIs, data models, and background jobs.
• Build and maintain Ruby on Rails services and contribute to React interfaces as product work requires.
• Own production follow-through: use logs and metrics to investigate issues, take part in incident reviews, and prevent repeat problems.
• Improve API quality, performance, observability, testing, and maintainability while delivering customer value.
• Use AI coding assistants regularly for research, implementation, tests, and documentation; verify generated work before it is merged.
• Review code, pair with teammates, document useful patterns, and mentor engineers through practical guidance.

What we are looking for

• 8+ years building and operating production web applications or SaaS products.
• Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and relational databases, plus the ability to build and maintain React-based interfaces.
• Experience delivering complex features end to end, including APIs, data models, user interfaces, and automated tests.
• Comfort using production logs and metrics to troubleshoot issues and improve reliability.
• Regular use of AI tools in development, with sound judgment about correctness, security, and confidential code.
• Ability to influence implementation decisions and help teammates grow without relying on formal authority.

Experience with AWS or another cloud platform, background jobs, event-driven integrations, or helping teammates grow is a plus. You do not need deep expertise in every technology listed.
